Honey From the River Red Gums: Why We’re Proud to Stock Te Amo Honey

Along the banks of the Murray River, something remarkable happens each spring and summer.

The River Red Gums flower.

To most people, it’s just another moment in the bush calendar. But to bees, it’s a feast. And when bees feast well, extraordinary honey follows.

Here in Echuca–Moama, the red gum forests stretch along the Murray like an ancient cathedral of timber and shade. These trees have stood here for centuries, drawing water from the river flats and offering nectar to the insects that keep our ecosystems alive.

It’s from these blossoms that Red Gum Honey is born.

And when it’s harvested carefully, respectfully, and with deep knowledge of the land, it produces one of the most beautiful honeys in Australia.

A Meeting at the Farmers Market

Some collaborations feel inevitable.

In my role as President of Echuca Farmers Market (another hat), I’ve had the privilege of meeting hundreds of incredible producers over the years. Farmers, bakers, growers, fermenters, cheesemakers — the sort of people who quietly dedicate their lives to doing one thing exceptionally well.

When Itzul and John from Te Amo Honey first launched their brand, we had the pleasure of introducing them to the Echuca Farmers Market community.

From the very first tasting, something stood out.

Their honey wasn’t just good.

It was exceptional.

Rich. Floral. Deeply aromatic. Honey that tastes unmistakably of the Australian bush.

In our view, it’s the finest honey we’ve come across.

And that’s saying something in a country that produces some of the best honey on Earth.

A Love Story… Literally

Te Amo Honey itself has a beautiful origin story.

The name means “I love you” in Spanish — a nod to the cross-continental romance that brought Itzul and John together.

Their journey from opposite sides of the world eventually led them to Victoria, where they built a honey business grounded in care for bees, landscape, and craftsmanship.

Their approach is simple.

Produce honey the way it should be produced.

Minimal intervention. Respect for the bees. Careful harvesting. And allowing the character of each floral source to shine through.

You can read more about their story and their growing family, too, here:

Stories like this remind you that behind every great food product is something even better — people who genuinely care about what they make.

Why Quincey Jones Jelly Preserves Is Stocking Their Honey

At Quincey Jones Jelly Preserves Co., we’ve always believed great food starts with great ingredients and great producers.

Our jams, relishes and preserves are built around that same philosophy.

So when we taste something that truly stands out, we pay attention.

Te Amo Honey is exactly that.

Their honey captures the flavour of the River Red Gum forests that surround our region, the same landscape that shapes so much of the produce we use in our own kitchen.

It felt only natural to bring their honey into the Quincey Jones range.

Because sometimes the best thing you can do as a food producer… is recognise excellence and share it.

First Up: Red Gum Honey

The first honey we’re introducing is their Red Gum Honey 430g.

This is classic Australian bush honey:

  • Rich amber colour
  • Warm caramel notes
  • Beautifully smooth texture
  • A depth of flavour that works equally well in sweet and savoury dishes

Red Gum honey is one of Australia’s great bush honeys — deep amber in colour, with warm caramel notes and a lingering floral finish. It’s the kind of honey that makes a simple breakfast toast feel like something special.

Or a drizzle over yoghurt and fruit feels like dessert.

And also… Macadamia Honey

We’ll also be stocking something truly special.

Honey & Macadamias 350g.

Whole roasted macadamias suspended in golden honey.

Crunchy. Buttery. Sweet. Completely addictive.

It’s the sort of jar that quietly disappears from the pantry faster than you expect.

A Shared Landscape

One of the joys of working in regional food is that everything is connected.

The orchards.
The forests.
The bees.
The farmers' markets.
The kitchen.

Honey from the red gums.
Peaches from Kyabram.
Figs from Echuca.
Jams from our preserves kitchen.

Around here, the Murray shapes everything — the orchards, the forests, the bees, and the food we make. Te Amo Honey is a beautiful expression of that landscape, and we’re proud to share it with you and also proud to champion another exceptional local producer.

Because great food is always better when it’s part of a community.
