There is something timeless about a jar of perfectly poached pears.

We gently cook plump Australian pears until they become beautifully tender, then bathe them in a delicately spiced syrup infused with whole cinnamon sticks, star anise, cardamom, vanilla bean and a gentle hint of ginger. The result is a compôte that is light, fragrant and wonderfully elegant, allowing the natural sweetness of the pears to remain the star of the show.

Unlike heavy desserts, our Pear Compôte feels effortlessly refined. Serve it warm or chilled, spoon it over creamy Greek yoghurt, fold it through porridge or granola, or pair it with vanilla ice cream for a dessert that feels straight from a country farmhouse kitchen. It also makes a beautiful accompaniment to soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, where the delicate spice and gentle sweetness balance the richness perfectly. Pears have long been paired with cheese, blue cheeses and walnuts in European cuisine for their subtle honeyed flavour and silky texture.

Made in small batches using pears from the Goulburn Valley (VIC), this is comfort food with a little sophistication — ready whenever you need it.
